Peter Rogiers

°1967, Belgium

As a child Peter Rogiers was fascinated by the world of comic books. That fascination continues to be very much present in his sculpture. Rogiers is a ‘new sculptor’: he makes tangible three-dimensional sculptures and has an eye for the recognizable, the human body, away from the conceptual. A Fishersman’s Friend is a monumental jagged figure of aluminium, standing on a pedestal. It seems as if the figure is coming from the marsh mud out of the dark water. The figure was modelled in diverse materials (polyurethane, epoxy and polystyrene foam) put next to each other like a collage. The welds and aluminium surfaces are rough and unpolished.
