LE VENT SOUFFLE OÙ IL VEUT

BEAUFORT-LOCATION: BEACH DE HAAN

Daniel Buren

°1938, France

Daniel Buren looks for the essence of art and is critical towards the systems supporting that same art. He works with highly diverse materials, since the sixties however always with a fixed pattern: white stripes with an identical width of 8.7 centimetres, alternated with one and the same colour. With his minimalist way of working he tries to grasp the essence of painting: light and colour, fore- and background... Spatial consciousness is essential. With Le Vent souffle où il veut (The wind blows wherever it pleases) he creates the illusion of a forest by putting together a hundred flagpoles. So-called weathercocks are hanging from the poles. The visitor can walk between the flagpoles and dream away in an oasis of colour.
