BEAUFORT-LOCATION: BEACH ENTRANCE ASTRID, BREDENE

Sterling Ruby

°1972, USA

Sterling Ruby created a colourful, block-shaped structure on the beach of Bredene. The colours remind us of the colours of the rainbow. Ruby examines the inheritance of American post-war art: the abstract expressionism in painting and minimalist sculpture. He belongs to a generation of artists, who wants to reintegrate the experiences of the physical, of sexuality in a form of sculpture, which is considered pure and formal. His work expresses the psychological suppression of fatality in human life. He tries to undo our natural desire for heroic beauty and the sculptural expression thereof.
