BEAUFORT-LOCATION: BEACH NEAR THE SPARRENDREEF, KNOKKE-HEIST

Leonor Antunes

°1972, Portugal

Leonor Antunes was inspired by the typical architecture of Belgian coastal tourism. With fifteen temporary beach huts she brought an ode to the lost modernist building style. In each hut an aspect of the house of Victor Bourgeois (1897-1962) was illustrated. He was the main pioneer of the international Modern Movement in Belgium and realised an extensive built and written oeuvre. Villa Teirlinck was built in 1928 by Bourgeois as a double family house in Sint-Idesbald and belonged to the families Herman Teirlinck and Karel Maes. In 1999 the building was knocked down to make room for an apartment complex.
