CROSSING

BEAUFORT LOCATION: BOTH SIDES OF THE BLANKENBERGE CHANNEL

Nigel Hall

°1943, Bristol, Great Britain

Nigel Hall places his monumental sculptures in vast landscapes with which they seem to become one, as if they were mythical remains of centuries-old civilizations. For Beaufort02 he took two existing works as point of departure. The sculptures to the left and right of the channel are two similar signs, one vertical and the other horizontal. The vertical work is opposite the 20 metres higher lighthouse, the horizontal sculpture is incorporated in the vast horizontal plain formed by the beach and the sea. That is how Crossing interferes with the environment. The connection between both sculptures is the channel, a ferry is almost literally the bridge between them.
