Jan Fabre

°1958, Antwerp, Belgium

Jan Fabre is a visual artist, theatre maker and author. At the end of the 1970s he received training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and at the Municipal Institute of Decorative Arts and Crafts in Antwerp. During Beaufort01 he presented Searching for Utopia, better known as the "Zeeschildpad van Nieuwpoort" (Sea turtle of Nieuwpoort). De Astronaut die de zee dirigeert (The Astronaut conducting the sea) was his creation for Beaufort02. The astronaut-conductor is an image of Dirk Frimout, the Belgian astronaut-scientist carrying on a dialogue with the sea.
