BEAUFORT LOCATION: SINT-THERESIA CHAPEL, WESTENDE

Luc Zeebroek

°1956, Nieuwpoort, Belgium

With Beaufort02 Luc Zeebroek, originally from the Belgian coast,  came home. Zeebroek, also known as Kamagurka, is particularly known as cartoonist for the weekly magazine Humo, NRC Handelsblad, The New Yorker and Vrij Nederland. These last few years Luc Zeebroek made his debut as a painter, using his real name. Zeebroek’s figures walk out of the hell of a Bosch-like painting: figures without torso become spiderlike creatures and eyes become bicycle wheels. In the Sint-Theresia chapel in Westende Luc Zeebroek placed a large “altar” painting that ironically refers to the apocryphic and biblical figures depicted throughout the centuries, sometimes with extremely bizarre attributes.
