Daniel Spoerri

°1930, Galati, Romania

The Romanian artist Daniel Spoerri conceived the idea for his ‘tableaux-pièges’ (snare paintings) in 1960: objects were glued onto a table or in a drawer and subsequently the whole was vertically attached to the wall, like a painting. Ten years later he became famous as the inventor of Eat Art: works of art with food. His recent works comprise bronze assemblages, carpeting and collages. With Ik, James Ensor (I, James Ensor) Spoerri created a studio fully made of bronze, inspired by Ensor’s studio in the Ensor house.
