DE MAN DIE DE BOOT ZAG, IN DE LUCHT

CURRENT LOCATION: BEACH, AT THE END OF THE SEAFRONT, AT THE BEACH HOUSE, ZEEBRUGGE

Jean Bilquin

Jean Bilquin's monumental gate to the sea rises up at the tidemark on the beach of Zeebrugge. On trestles with a height of 10 meters rests a canoe with human figures: the artist reduced them to shadows, barely identifiable. Slightly further away a classic figure is looking mysteriously. Jean Bilquin considers classical beauty of paramount importance and here it is visualised in a subtle way: the whole work symbolises the journey of life with ups-and-downs, falling upon every one of us. De man die de boot zag, in de lucht, (The man who saw the vessel, in the sky) is property of MDK (Maritime Service Coast).
